After a scenic train ride to Naples, followed by a beautiful car ride along the coast, we found ourselves in a completely different Italy than we experienced in Rome. Positano is a lovely cliffside village located on the Amalfi Coast. Here we were surrounded by luxurious boutiques and cafes.

The Hotel: The Eden Roc Hotel

As I said in my post about Rome, this honeymoon was gifted to us by my in-laws, so I don’t know, nor do I wish to speculate on how much they paid for this hotel. I understand this may be out of the price range of the average traveler, but if you can swing it, I’m sure this is worth the money. If it is out of your price range, there are loads of other hotels and home rentals to choose from. When we arrived, our room wasn’t quite ready yet, so the front desk offered to hold our bags while we went to the roof top restaurant for some lunch. When the elevator doors opened at the top, a host was there to greet us by name and escort us to our table, which was on an outside patio with a sprawling view of the sea. After finishing our meal, as we were paying, another hotel employee showed up as if on cue to escort us to our room where our bags were already waiting for us. Everything about our experience made us feel like royalty.

We had planned to take a boat to nearby Capri on our first day, but the weather and waves weren’t permitting, so we rented a couple of beach chairs and spent a relaxing day by the water.

The following day we were able to arrange a boat ride to Capris. Once we arrived at the island, we decided to walk the stairs to the top where many of the shops are instead of taking the funicular. It was very hot, and the traverse to the top was longer than we expected. I would take the funicular next time as the climb wasn’t terribly scenic and the time it took cut into our time on the island. After a tasty lunch, it was time to shop! There is a menagerie of shops and boutiques on Capri, and exploring and getting lost in them was so much fun.

Other than our day trip to Capri, we spent the rest of our time resting, relaxing, and sampling the local cuisine. Our time in Rome was so packed with sightseeing that it was time for a much needed break. Below are some other pictures of the delicious pastas and seafood we tried in Positano.
