4 Ways I focus on self-care


Life is stressful. It’s easy to get caught up in your responsibilities, what others need from you, work, bills, family; the list goes on. It is so easy to forget to take care of yourself. I know I’m really bad about this. I find it hard to even call out sick from work when I need to. I think about my coworkers who I would be letting down. These are some things I like to do when I really need to destress and focus on me:

1. Get a massage

I have a very physically and emotionally demanding job. When I start the week and can already tell it’s going to be a rough one, I schedule a massage for the weekend. It gives me something to look forward to the rest of the week and it will help me unwind when the week is over.

2. Plan a girls night

When things are crazy and I just need a night to unwind and vent, I know I can count on my girl group to get together for a margarita night.

3. Go to a movie

My husband and I love going to the movies. There is a theater walking distance from our apartment. If the pressures of life are getting me down, going to a movie is the perfect way for me to escape from reality for a couple of hours.

4. Go on a hike

There’s nothing like a little fresh air to help clear your mind and center you. I’m a big fan of hiking. It doesn’t have to be anything big. Just a little walk in the woods can really make me feel a lot better.
