You read that right! This week is the first week of my 16 week training regimen to prepare for my very first half marathon.
I’ve never been a big runner. I’ve taken up jogging off and on periodically over the years. I used to run a lot more in college, but the longest distance I did was a 5K, which is about 3.1 miles. A half marathon is 13.1 miles! That’s 10 more miles than I ever ran before!
For the past month or so, I’ve been trying to exercise more, taking a couple of group classes a week and doing my own workouts at home. I finally decided I needed something to motivate me to stick with it this time. That’s when a Facebook friend posted that she was training for a half marathon.
I looked into it, found a few options in my area, and found several beginner level training plans. I registered for one in October, which will be a little more than 16 weeks away, but the training plan will get me ready (hopefully) in 16 weeks. It cost $100 to register, so the thought of losing that money will hopefully be enough motivation to follow through.
I will keep you updated as I go, sharing the ups, downs, and progression. Wish me luck!
